Many women turn to weaves in order to achieve instant thickness and style. With a plethora of weaving techniques available, it is easy to become confused about which one is right for your hair. By far, sew-in weaves and bonded weaves are two methods of weaving that a majority of stylists are trained to do. Use this guide to help you choose which one is right for your hair.
Weaves Achieved Through Bonding 1.Using bonding glue to achieve a weave is a great way to add instant thickness and length to your hair without requiring a braided base. Bonded weaves require a special glue to attach a hair weave to your natural hair without causing damage to your fragile strands. In most cases, using bonding glue can cause damage to your hair if your weave is not taken down by a professional.
Bonding weaves is one of the most affordable methods to weave hair since stylists don't have to spend time braiding your hair before attaching a weave. The process of braiding hair before a weave can take at least an hour. With bonding, your hair is simply washed and straightened before adding a weave. Your stylist will then part your hair in rows and attach bonding glue to the weft of the hair weave. The weave is then applied slightly below the part and on top of your natural hair to help hold it in place.
With bonded weaves you control where and how much hair you would like glued in. Any remaining hair not covered by the glued in hair is combed over to disguise the weave hair. What you are left with is a thicker, longer head of hair. When it's well taken care of, you can expect your bonded weave to last up to three weeks.
Weaves Achieved Through Sew-Ins 2.Sew-in weaves are a popular choice for weaving, as they not only allow your natural hair to take a rest during the hairstyling process, but also promote growth as well. Sew-in weaves are achieved by having your natural hair cornrowed to prepare it as a base for a hair weave. If you find that you do not have enough hair to achieve a braided base, most stylists will add in extension hair to ensure that all of your hair is neatly braided.
Once you have a braided base, your stylist will then attach wefts of hair to the cornrow base using a specially made weaving needle and thread. The needles used for sewing in hair do not contain a sharp point, so there is no need to fear being poked or having your natural hair damaged. Instead, weaving needles are curved in appearance, which allows for effortless insertion into your cornrow base.
Sew-in weaves can either be worn with portions of your hair left out to cover the braided base, or they can be worn as a full-head weave that leaves no visible scalp. When well taken care of, sew-in weaves last for two to three months before maintenance is needed.
